NO, for the Buddhist religious beliefs, most Thai girls (and especially the parents) would be very happy to have a marriage ceremony of traditional Thai wedding, albeit the fact that it is not legally recognized as a marriage.

YES, the legal marriage in Thailand is affected in person at the local Thai 'Amphur' (Civil Registry Office), the government office that handles all the registration matters regardless, be it a foreigner marrying Thai, a Thai or foreign couple. The process of marriage registration isn't too complicated. Produce all the relevant documents, present them to the officer at Amphur... and shortly after, you'll have a marriage certificate, which is recognized as such by the authorities of United Kingdom , France, Germany, Australia and likely many other countries.
But we strongly recommend US residents to opt for a 90 day fianc?e visa, and NOT to marry; as this facilitates the visa process in their home country.

YES, for your Lady's family you are their son-in-law and you are responsible for their daughter after the ceremony. It is you and your partner who decided to make an official marriage. As I have say it already, it is the ceremony which is most significant for the Thai people, it is not a document to sign in front of a registrar which will change your feeling to each others. We can plan arrange and facilitate a Thai marriage at 2 days notice, if required!

Not exactly, in place of a diamond ring as common in the West, Thais opt for the gold, normally in the form of jewellery. Actually, it is almost 97% pure gold made in Thailand. When traded locally, its weight is measured in 'Baht'. One Baht of gold is equals to 1/2 a troy ounce or 15.2 grams. The minimum should be three Baht of gold. It represents the necklace, a bracelet and the 2 rings. (+/- 250 GBP or +/- 450 USD)

The Thai marriage involves an ancient tradition called 'Sinsod'. The "Sinsod" or dowry is supposed to be compensation to the family of the bride for the loss of a worker. It?s a custom of paying a dowry to compensate a family of bride "for the mother's milk". There is no set amount, the sum is typically determined on the "value" of the future wife. Her beauty, personality, background, education and other qualifications, if she is a virgin, or has got a child and so forth. Some families hand the dowry back to the couple as a wedding gift, they do not require a dowry, but the most of the Ladies from Isaan give it back because they feel more comfortable when they leave from her country and family. The dowry range is between 50,000 THB up to 250,000 THB (700 ? 3,400 GBP or 1200 ? 6,300 USD). In a highly publicized recent marriage of a Thai celebrity a massive 25 million Baht was paid. We do not handle dowries under any circumstances and we leave it up to the couple to decide on how much, if anything is an appropriate gift to the family of the bride and how much the man is pleased to pay.
